The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is categorized as one of the best treks in the world for its conservation of its original, stone pathways once used by the Incas. This program includes different campsites to allow you to rest better and keep your distance from the crowds of visitors that usually visit the Inca Trail. It's very important to Llama Tours Peru that our clients rest well and are able to start the trek with good physical condition. You will enter into the Andes towards the cloud forest through the Inca Trail. During the trek, you will visit four archaeological sites and at last the sanctuary of Machu Picchu. Enjoy a train ride to Ollantaytambo and a private bus to Cusco.
NOTE: For the Inca Trail, a permit is necessary. The permits are limited to about 500 per day. Reservation ahead of time (4-6 months during high season and 1-2 months during low season) are recommended to guarantee that you are able to go.
DETAILS: INCA TRAIL LUGGAGE AND CARRY LIMIT:
During the Inca Trail your main luggage will be stored in Cusco, and we will give you a small canvas bag called a dafor for your trek (we will turn it in the night before the start of the Inca Trail, the briefing day) to bring clothes for 3-4 days. Our team of porters will carry these bags together with the food and equipment for the trek. Keep in mind that you won't have access to these items until the end of every day, as the porters will always be ahead of the group, meaning you should bring a small backpack to bring personal items such as a camera, water, sunblock, repellent, etc. According to the Peruvian law, the canvas bag that the porters carry should not weigh more than 5kg, including your sleeping bag. This limit was established to protect the porters' health. All of the bags will be weighed before being accepted. If you need more than 5kg, it will be your responsibility to carry the extra quantity along with your small backpack each day.
NOTE: In February, the Inca Trail will be closed for maintenance.
PERMITS AS AN OPERATING AGENCY FOR THE INCA TRAIL 2016-2017
Before reserving the Inca Trail through a tour operator, you should check beforehand that they have authorizations, considering that many informal operators offer the Inca Trail without being accredited with granted permission by the government entities. So, with the objective to legalize and grant these permits only to responsible, formal tour operators, that have all the pre-requisites to give appropriate service during the Inca Trail, above the following text you can see the granted type of authorization by SERNANP (entity in charge of the natural resources) and DDC-Cusco (Decentralized Culture Directorate of Cusco) that grants licenses for the benefit of the Inca Trail service.
